Building all staff's capacity is an essential part of program implementation, more so for national staff at the forefront of service delivery. These capacity-building programs aim to improve the range of staff skills and competencies linked to the immediate tasks and targeted training to meet critical responsibilities. A good capacity building program contributes to the organization's strengthening and increases its capacity for future programming. Different organizations have different capacity building programs for their national staff depending on their size, needs, and contexts.
Join us at this roundtable to hear from two organizations about their initiatives. International Rescue Committee will share their Building Basics, a learning program geared towards strengthening national staff's necessary skills. In its 5th year, Building Basics has reached thousands of International Rescue Committee staff with learning opportunities in project management, Microsoft Excel, communications, and language learning. Learn about what makes Building Basics one of the most popular learning initiatives at the IRC, how it works, and how it can continue to improve.
International Medical Corps is committed to building staff capacity across the organization. In 2020, they launched a National Staff Capacity Building Working Group to outline a framework of technical and leadership skill-building activities that would promote localization of skills in those areas. As the facilitator of this working group, Maura Bookter, will discuss discoveries and challenges as they move forward to create successful solutions.
We will also discuss:
- What levels of maturity are our national staff capacity building programs?
- What challenges are faced when implementing national staff capacity building programs?
- What resources are available to support national staff capacity building programs
