Organization: UN Institute for Training and Research
Start date: 15 Jan 2022
End date: 23 May 2022
Registration deadline: 14 Mar 2022

Introduction

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically shown the degree to which vulnerability, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA) characterise our world. Higher levels of resilience and adaptability on the individual and organisational level are needed and can only be achieved through rapid development and implementation of new skills and innovative organisational strategies.

In-demand cross-cutting skills of the future will be essential and will need to be deployed in tandem with new technologies and remote work. Future leaders will need emerging self-management skills aimed at active learning, resilience, stress tolerance, and flexibility in addition to a stronger set of core critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Structure

The UNITAR – Hertie School Executive Online Certificate will be composed of 9 sessions, among these eight three-hour workshops and a closing session. Beyond this each participant will develop a strategy on how their organisation can adapt to challenges and opportunities posed by the current changes in their specific working environments which they will present and discuss in the closing session.

Participants who successfully fulfil all requirements, will be awarded with a joint UNITAR – Hertie School Certificate which is also accredited with four (4) ECTS points. To successfully complete the certificate and obtain ECTS points, participants needs to submit their written case study.

Given its core purpose, the course will take place online to ensure maximum flexibility for participants. The activities will be designed to be highly interactive, characterised by a similar format to face-to-face courses involving simulations, group exercises and discussion, hands-on assignments whenever possible, and Q&A sessions.

Learning Objectives

The programme seeks to create an environment where participants identify, examine and acquire the essential professional qualities needed to sustain business in a VUCA work world and simultaneously network and establish partnerships with other like-minded individuals from around the world.

The programme aims to strengthen participants' abilities to:

  • Analyse current megatrends in the work- and marketplace and understand the impact these developments have on their own organisations and businesses;
  • Understand how work is changing and the concept of new work, examining the limitations and opportunities this creates, and where specifically this could be deployed in the participants' workplace and teams;
  • Develop organisational strategies to seize the opportunities and address the challenges posed by changing working environments;
  • Examine different leadership styles and understand the changing roles and responsibilities of leaders working in VUCA environments;
  • Develop their personal and cultural leadership style using their unique strengths for successful team mobilisation;
  • Reinforce management change towards a more innovative, agile organisational culture which enables organisations and businesses to thrive in today’s VUCA environment.

Target Audience

The online programme is designed and targeted for growth-oriented professionals working in multilateral contexts, both in the private and public sector, as well as anyone who is in or aiming to be in high-level roles in the future.
