Course description
The ability of a team to collaborate effectively is critical to an organization’s success. Whether you’re putting together a team for the first time, or trying to make an existing team more effective, intentional team design is worth the effort. Many once extremely well-performing teams are now dealing with deep challenges. And of course, the higher the complexity, the more unprecedented the challenges, the more critical collaboration and effective teaming becomes. The COVID-19 pandemic has made this evidently clear. However, effective collaboration does not develop naturally. It must be clearly and thoughtfully designed.
Most teams have not been designed intentionally. They have structure, but it is not questioned or examined. They have norms that exert a powerful influence on team behavior, but they are implicit and elusive. They have tasks that can only be completed through collaborative work, but these tasks are never articulated.
This course is designed to equip leaders and team members with a conceptual framework and practical tools to systematically design and improve collaboration with intention and purpose. Participants will confront and reexamine their assumptions about teams, team leadership and team effectiveness. They will re-design their most pressing collaborative work, guided by two expert facilitators.
