In this webinar, speakers will draw on their experience to discuss social cohesion in theory and practice. In doing so, they will consider challenges, examples, and ways forward. By having this conversation, this webinar aims to enhance the effectiveness of social cohesion activities between refugees and host communities in Turkey.

About the speakers
Musa Akgül
is a trainer, consultant, and grassroots social worker with over 17 years of experience. He has worked with UNICEF, GIZ, and UNHCR on social cohesion, capacity development, and civic awareness programmes for youth, adolescents, and teachers. He is senior trainer with the CoE, and SPARK, and works with several international institutions focused on social cohesion, human rights education, and civic awareness.
Şerife Durna
is an English lecturer at Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University and a PhD candidate in English Language and Literature at Erciyes University, Kayseri. She works at European Union Research and Application Center as a researcher and trainer, and has been volunteer for 11 years in the youth field. In addition, Şerife has been Eurodesk Contact Person since 2013.
Karam Hilly
is co-founder of Door Beyond War. Karam started his career with the UNDP in 2009 and has gained over 10 years of experience in community development with local and international NGO’s and UN Agencies. Since the start of the Syrian revolution, Karam has worked to promote dialogue and peace among Syrian youth and grassroots. In addition, Karam worked as capacity building advisor for Norwegian People’s Aid, Friends of Syrian People, managed an EU funded governance project. Alongside his work, he has also established and supported many local initiatives in Syria and Turkey.
Mohammed Mahrousa
is a professional humanitarian worker and researcher working on Syria’s regional humanitarian response. Mohammed holds a master’s degree in Reconciliation and Peacebuilding from the University of Winchester, UK. As part of his work and research, Mohammed has conducted extensive research and evaluation exercises for humanitarian, social cohesion, and peacebuilding projects in Turkey and Syria.
