In April 2020, at the height of the first wave of COVID-19 across Europe, academics at Alliance Manchester Business School and the Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute launched The Manchester Briefing – a fortnightly document that brings together international lessons for local and national government recovery and renewal in the wake of the pandemic.
The Briefing, which has been successfully distributed across the world, has been specifically aimed at those who plan and implement recovery from COVID-19, including government emergency planners and resilience officers. One year on since its launch, this special event will explore and collate the key lessons and themes that have emerged from around the globe during the crisis, and we will be joined by a panel of emergency managers who will share their local experiences of COVID-19 responses, early recovery efforts, where their cities are now, and the challenges that lie ahead in terms of recovery and renewal.
