The Course
The course is targeted at professionals working in hostile environment. This may include humanitarian workers, those working in mining industry and oil and gas fields among others. The participants are imparted with skills and knowledge necessary to identify mitigate and respond appropriately to the threats they face in a changing and sometime violent environment. By sending participants to this course the employer also ensures that they not only meet moral and legislative responsibility but also ensure that the employees have the capacity to operate safely and securely in the work environment.
The course has been developed to meet and exceed the highest standards set for HEAT training.
Objectives
The main objectives for the course are:**
To increase the participants awareness of the many threats present in different environments and impart the necessary knowledge and skills to manage the risk posed by the threat.
To practice in safe but realistic environment response to various threats including crossfire, kidnap, hostile crowd, mines among others.**
Methodology
The course is made up of three modules:
Self-study module: where the participants are given access to material that elaborate to read at their own pace. The material provide introduction to basic concepts of personal safety and security. They include links to course notes, videos and other online assessment resources.
Instructor Led module: These sessions are conducted through web conferencing and are led by our facilitators. They involve presentations by the facilitator, group discussions, role plays and videos. Through the use of a contextualized case study the participants are taken through how to identify threats and vulnerabilities, analyzing risk at an individual and developing mitigation and appropriate response measures.
3. Simulation Exercise: The exercises are held at the Kenya School of Adventure and Leadership in Nanyuki, Kenya. The Schools is modern state of the art facility specializing in security and humanitarian related courses. The facility has an expansive compound that includes The Amani(peace) village that has specifically been built to facilitate simulation exercises. This allows the participants to practice under safe and controlled environment reaction to different threats including active shooter, kidnap, mines, medical emergencies among others**
